Group A (General Sociology)
Group A (General Sociology) offers introductory and specialized courses in the following subfields of sociology:
- Cultural Sociology
- Economic Sociology
- Gender Sociology
- Sociology of Science, Technology and Medicine
- Political Sociology.
The main principles of course design are as follows:
- Deepening disciplinary foundational training.
- Cultivating local concerns and problem awareness.
- Fostering historical consciousness.
- Familiarizing students with the ‘second societies’ outside Taiwan with comparative perspectives.
- Integrating academic concerns with lives.
We aim to cultivate students’ core competencies as follows:
- Ability to ask questions: Pose insightful questions about social phenomena.
- Ability to answer: Propose various research designs, collect and create various materials to answer questions.
- Ability to practice: Identify the implications of research findings in concrete contexts.
Graduates from this group have diverse career paths. With a foundation in solid academic training, some continue their studies in doctoral programs both domestically and internationally. They have obtained degrees and taken positions in universities and research institutions worldwide and have become outstanding academic professionals.
