The predecessor of our institute was the Institute of Social Anthropology, which was divided into the Institute of Sociology and the Institute of Anthropology in 1998. 
Currently, the Institute of Sociology @NTHU offers MA and Ph.D. programs.

Our goals:
1.    to cultivate future sociologists who possess profound analytical and critical abilities to explore the transformation of Taiwanese society
2.    to nurture future social backbone with sociological perspectives to make contribution in various fields and sectors in our society.

Two sub-programs for our MA program are: Group A (General Sociology) and Group B (Chinese Studies Program).
