演講簡介｜Engels’s short work “The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State” is canonical for Marxist-feminists. However, his work also reinscribes the gender-order hierarchy of men over women, and masculinity over femininity. It does so by naturalising the masculine qualities that generate this oppression in the first place. His discursive strategy thus secures the existing gender-order far more than a transformative one, precisely because of the way that he characterises men.
